CONSTITUTION

 

ARTICLE  I:   NAME

The name of this Organization:  Sierra Veterinary Medical Association

 

ARTICLE  II:   OBJECTIVES

The Objectives of this Association are:

  • To promote the Science and Art of Veterinary Medicine.
  • To propagate the fraternal spirit of its Members through meetings nationally and internationally.
  • To elevate the standards of the Profession and its Members through scientific meetings worldwide.
  • At the same time to combine this with healthful relaxation and enjoyment of the great outdoors.  

ARTICLE III:   FOUNDING

The Sierra Veterinary Medical Association was founded in the year 1960, at Mammoth Lakes, California.  The Charter Members were:

  • Dr. Mil Custer, President
  • Dr. John Puckett
  • Dr. Bob Miller
  • Dr. Bob Stansbury

 

BY-LAWS

ARTICLE I:   TYPES OF MEMBERSHIP

 A.Regular Member: Any graduate of an AVMA recognized a school of veterinary medicine.

B. Associate Member:

  1. Any person associated with Veterinary Medicine in one of the allied medical fields or professions, or any friend of the association.
  2. Must be recommended and vouched for by two regular Members of the Sierra Veterinary Medical Association who are in good standing.

C. Honorary Members:

  1. Any person sympathetic to the discipline of Veterinary Medicine whose presence in the Sierra Veterinary Medical Association will enhance its stature and objectives.
  2. Must be recommended and vouched for by two regular Members of the Sierra Veterinary Medical Association who are in good standing and voted in by a simple majority of the regular membership at a regularly scheduled meeting.
  3. A surviving spouse of any SVMA member who dies while in good standing with the SVMA and expressed a desire to accept this honor shall automatically become an Honorary Member of SVMA.
  4. Honorary Life Membership shall be awarded by vote of Council of Past Presidents to any SVMA Member who for exemplary service, incapacitation or for any other reason deemed appropriate.
    • Honorary and Honorary Life Members shall be exempt from dues. They shall receive all SVMA communication and newsletters appropriate to the general membership. They shall not be exempt from meeting, travel or lodging expenses.
    • Members of families and guests will be the responsibility of their respective sponsoring Member.

ARTICLE II:   MEETINGS

A. Regular Meetings shall be held:

1. Summer Meeting –      Called for by the President of the Sierra Veterinary Medical  Association.

  1. Winter Meeting –  Voted by simple majority of the Council of Past Presidents, two years in advance.

B. Special Meetings

  1. Called for by the President of the Sierra Veterinary Medical Association.
  2. Called for by the Council of Past Presidents.

ARTICLE III: ELECTIVE OFFICERS

A. The Elective Officers of the Sierra Veterinary Medical Association shall be the President, President-Elect, and 1st Vice-President and 2nd Vice-President. All must be members in good standing of the Sierra Veterinary Medical Association.

B. The President shall advance from the position of President-Elect by vote of those present at the Winter Meeting of Past Presidents and shall be installed at the conclusion of the Winter Meeting.

C.The President Elect shall advance from the position of 1st Vice-President by vote of those present at the Winter Meeting of past Presidents and shall be installed at the conclusion of the Winter Meeting.

D. The 1st Vice-President shall advance from the position of 2nd Vice President by vote of those present at the Winter Meeting of Past Presidents and shall be installed at the conclusion of the Winter Meeting.

E. The 2nd Vice-President shall be elected by vote of those present at the annual Winter Meeting of Past Presidents and shall be notified following the meeting by the current President-Treasurer and installed at the conclusion of the Winter Meeting.

ARTICLE IV: DUTIES OF ELECTED OFFICERS

A. President:

  1. Serve on the Executive Committee and conduct the meeting.
  2. Attend and conduct the Past Presidents Council Meeting.
  3. Call Summer Meeting as to time and place, and make necessary and appropriate arrangements for this Meeting.
  4. Follow through with necessary and appropriate arrangements for the Winter Meeting.
  5. Appoint the Program Chairman.
  6. Conduct all of the business of the Sierra Veterinary Medical Association.
  7. Responsible for all business communications and newsletters of the Sierra Medical Association with the help of the Executive Secretary.

B. President–Elect:

  1. Serve as alternate to the President.
  2. Serve on the Executive Committee.
  3. Attend Past Presidents Council Meetings to receive orientation and instruction.
  4. Pursue arrangements for the meetings of his/her presidential year.

C.1st Vice-President:

  1. Serve as alternate to the President-Elect.
  2. Serve on the Executive Committee.
  3. Begin arrangements for meetings of his/her presidential year.
  4. Attend Past Presidents Council Meetings to receive orientation and instruction.

D. 2nd Vice-President

  1. Serve as alternate to the 1st Vice-President.
  2. Serve on the Executive Committee
    1. Consider arrangements for meetings of his/her presidential year.
    2. Attend Past Presidents Council Meetings to receive orientation and instruction.

ARTICLE V:   PAST PRESIDENTS COUNCIL

The Past Presidents Council shall consist of the Past Presidents of the Sierra Veterinary Medical Association. Council meetings will be attended by the SVMA officers and Executive Secre
