Cardiology in Practice
Join Dr. Sonya Gordon for A Series of Clinical Sessions including:
- A Practical Roadmap for Canine Myxomatous Valve Disease
This session explores stage-based, evidence-based management recommendations for MMVD, the most common form of heart disease in dogs. Emphasis will be placed on when to initiate treatment, as well as the diagnostic roles of echocardiography and thoracic radiographs—particularly in resource-limited settings. - Feline Cardiomyopathy: How to Find It, Stage It, and Treat It
Attendees will learn to identify, stage, and manage feline cardiomyopathy, while addressing the importance of ruling out comorbidities such as systemic hypertension and hyperthyroidism. Early signs of congestive heart failure (CHF) and arterial thromboembolism (ATE) will be reviewed, with practical strategies for real-world clinical use. - The Great Pretender: Pericardial Disease in Dogs
Pericardial effusion—often a sign of pericardial disease—can progress to cardiac tamponade, a life-threatening condition requiring emergency pericardiocentesis. This session will use case examples to highlight early recognition, diagnostic challenges, underlying causes, and critical clinical interventions. - What Do I Need to Know About Pulmonary Hypertension in Dogs?
Pulmonary hypertension (PH) is a significant and often under-recognized contributor to morbidity and mortality in dogs. Commonly linked to MMVD, airway disease, and Cushing’s disease, PH will be explored through a practical lens with focus on diagnosis, treatment, and current ACVIM guidelines. - Bonus Session: Mystery Cases
Conclude the series with interactive, real-world mystery cases. Attendees will test their diagnostic and clinical reasoning skills while reinforcing key concepts from the earlier sessions.
